Former KDFW/KXAS/WFAA-TV tower

Former 4/5/8 tower

Still on top of the WFAA/KDFW building, we turned around to see the old facility, once shared by WFAA, KDFW, and KXAS (channel 5). When this tower was damaged in a plane crash several years ago, the stations' insurance company demanded that the damaged sections -- including the nation's first candelabra top—be removed. Rather than reconstruct the old tower, the new tower we just saw was built by channels 4 and 8, and the old tower converted into a single-mast design by removing the top section. Channel 5 elected not to move to the new 4/8 tower and instead built its own tower nearby. (All the land underneath the Cedar Hill towers is owned by Hill Tower, Inc., a joint venture of A.H. Belo and News Corp.)
