Although MIT leadership prattle on about how they want to make the intersection of Main and Vassar the "new main entrance to campus" (apparently they've never read The Gadget Maker), it's not reflected in the design of the buildings located there. The "main entrance", architecturally speaking, to the Stata Center faces building 26. (The main entrance to the new BCS building faces Stata but not usefully, and the main entrance to the new Broad building faces the parking lot. If you enter Stata via the Main and Vassar entrance, and you want to get to the rest of Main campus, you'd better be prepared to find your way down to the basement or up to the third floor -- there's no connection on the ground floor without going back outside and hunting for another entrance.)

Can you see the perspective distortion in this photo? The Dreyfoos tower, at left, doesn't really list as much to the right as it appears.
