Back on the Front Street side of the Common for a moment. The street level of this building is a rather tatty row of junk shops, hairdressers, and whatnot; I was rather surprised (but gratified) when I looked up and saw this detail preserved. I suspect that this one decorative element would allow an architectural historian to date the building fairly precisely; I'm left to guess that it's some time between 1920 and 1955.
