Mount Washington, N.H, June 2006

Almost exactly a year ago as I write this, on the last weekend in June, 2006, my boss called me with an emergency. One of my colleagues, who had been scheduled to provide technical support at our Lab's annual faculty retreat, had a family emergency and couldn't make it. Could I pick up the equipment from him and spend a few days at the Mount Washington Hotel supporting this meeting? I of course said “Yes”.

The retreat always begins on Sunday evening (with the real work starting on Monday morning) and breaks up Wednesday at noon, with lodging and dining expenses for the faculty and their families paid by the Lab. On the last day of the meeting, I took my time getting home, visiting a few of the local stations. Mark Ericson at Citadel in Dover put me in touch with Audley Williams, who does a bit of everything for WPKQ at their North Conway legal main studios. Unfortunately, I was not able to get in touch with Bob Perry, the Maine-based consulting engineer who handles the engineering for both WPKQ and WHOM to see about visiting their transmitter facilities. I had also hoped to meet up with Cooper Fox at WBNC/WMWV but missed him by about an hour.
