Returning to the Webster Estate, I was able (thanks once again to Ed Perry's generosity) to attend the evening's banquet, at which was presented the first Reginald A. Fessenden award for broadcasting, to legendary WBZ reporter and anchor Gary LaPierre. LaPierre retires this December after some forty years on the air, all at WBZ. He has also appeared on WBZ-TV (including a stint as the anchor of Channel 4's noon news), and in a commentary feature, "LaPierre on the Loose", during the WBZ Afternoon News, both during the 1990s. In addition, LaPierre has done fill-in duty for well-known national radio personalities, including ABC's Paul Harvey. Here, the emcee of the awards ceremony (whose name I never learned) reads the award citation.
