New and old towers

New and old towers

[ Up | Prior | Next ]

This is an incredibly difficult site to photograph; I don't think there is anywhere publicly-accessible which has a good vantage point for all five new towers, never mind getting the two old ones at well. (Except, perhaps, from Great Blue Hill, with the aid of a good tripod and a long telephoto lens….) Because of perspective distortion, it's impossible to tell from this shot that the old towers are much, much taller than the new towers—to the extent that the old towers can easily be seen from Route 128 and the new towers simply cannot. (That was one of the concessions the stations had to make in order to gain planning approval for the project: the five new towers are all unpainted and unlit, which means that they must be less than 200 feet tall by FAA regulations.)

From left to right, you're looking at: north center, southeast, old east, southwest, northwest, old west. The northeast tower of the new array is out-of-frame to the left.
