The card cages seen here are the SAS 32KD audio router frames which manage all the audio passing in and out of each studio. These racks also contain (not shown here) the multiplexing equipment for each station's links to its main (Empire State Building) and backup (4 Times Square) transmitters, and to the stations' current studios in New Jersey. Since this building is a major telecommunications hub for lower Manhattan, there are redundant fiber connections up to the 24th floor meet-up facility, where connections can be made via common-carrier fiber or to antennas on the roof of the building. Note the pull-out console, which can connect via the data network to any server console in the facility.
