Arizona Wildlife

In April, 2009, I visited much of central and western Arizona, from Tucson to Flagstaff and Yuma to Bullhead City, as a part of Scott's and my annual trip to the 2009 NAB convention in Las Vegas. This year, I decided to leave Scott at the convention—which he reports was surprisingly well-attended, given the economy, down only about 20% from 2008—and head back to our starting point, Phoenix, by way of the Grand Canyon, which I had always wanted to see.

Most of my photos from the Grand Canyon are seen in a companion gallery, The Grand Canyon (and other landforms of Arizona); this gallery concentrates on the plants and animals of the Grand Canyon, and also includes plants and animals from other parts of our trip, primarily in Arizona.

I am by no means an experienced naturalist, so the descriptions here will be very brief, and may well be incorrect. To the extent I have correctly identified anything, it is with the help of the Grand Canyon Association's Field Guide to the Grand Canyon (Waterford Press, 2001), ISBN 978-1-58355-021-2, which is sold in the park's bookstores.
