U.S. Air Force blimp

U.S. Air Force blimp

At the end of Blimp Road, on Cudjoe Key, it is perhaps not unexpected that one should find a blimp. This U.S. Air Force site was home to two non-self-propelled blimps, both of which were stationed about 10,000 feet above the site. One of them was used for an air-defense radar, and the other one was used to transmit propaganda from the Miami Cuban-exile community in the general direction of Cuba (although no actual Cubans ever saw it, as Castro was much more successful in jamming it than he was with sister station Radio Marti). Both were destroyed in a 2005 hurricane, and I don't know whether either one was rebuilt.
