Our first stop is (what was in 2004) the headquarters of Houghton Mifflin, the oldest surviving Boston publisher. Houghton Mifflin is now owned by an Irish company, but their “trade” division is still based here. (“Trade” is publishing-industry jargon for the sort of books that are sold in traditional, general-audience bookstores, as distinguished from textbooks and other special markets.)
