Back end of 5 Greater Media FM studios

We have now moved on to the Greater Media studios in Dorchester. There are five FMs here, and all are nearly identical in their equipment.

With the addition of digital radio and its accompanying 8.5-second compression delay, it is no longer practical to use a direct off-air pickup for monitoring the air product in the studio. Each of the stations' racks, except WTKK's, contains an Orban Optimod 2200 processor to simulate the sound of the over-the-air signal for in-studio monitoring. All of the analog STL feeds, including those to the backup transmitter site in Needham, are delayed to match the compression delay, so that transmitter switch-overs are seamless to the listeners.
