Broadcasting Certificates

Broadcasting Certificates

In the Canadian regulatory regime, two different agencies are responsible for regulating aspects of broadcast station operations. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission oversees programming and licensing of stations. Industry Canada is responsible for technical aspects of broadcasting including spectrum management and emissions compliance. In order to broadcast, a station must have both a license from the CRTC and a "Broadcasting Certificate" from Industry Canada. The Hornby facility being purely a technical facility (except in emergencies), only CHWO's and CJBC's Broadcasting Certificates need be on display here. (One would expect to find the licenses at CHWO's Oakville studios and the CBC's Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, respectively.)
