WNED/WHLD towers

WNED/WHLD towers

Friday dawned at the NRC convention with another set of tours, this time in the Buffalo market. These five towers on Cloverbank Road in Hamburg were built for WEBR (970 Buffalo) when it was a commercial station, now as WNED they pump out NPR news and talk for Buffalo and nearby suburbs. (Unfortunately for the station, the directional pattern is rather unfavorable and provides very little service to the more affluent eastern suburbs.) A few years back, WHLD (1270 Niagara Falls) moved down here as well, taking advantage of WNED's five towers to beam a pencil-thin lobe right over its community of license -- and not coincidentally right over the city of Buffalo as well.
