John Ramsey had a story to tell about this base insulator. He'd always heeded the standard advice for engineers to check every AM tower's base insulators regularly. He had never seen anything wrong on an insulator inspection until a few years ago at the 910 site. He thought he saw a crack, so he hired a tower crew to jack the tower up and do a full inspection. As soon as the load was lifted, the insulator fell apart.
