Streets are closed on the Boston side starting early in the morning, but there's a need for some traffic to still move in the city even on one of our most important holidays, so Memorial Drive in Cambridge remains open until 6 PM. Once it's closed, crowds start to gather. Most of these people are here for the fireworks, which don't start until 10:35, so it works out well. The concert audio is made available throughout the area on the scissor-lift-mounted audio towers.
