Important people slept here

Many of the Mount Washington Hotel's rooms bear plaques like these identifying important people who have slept there. In this case, room 150, the guest Kyriakos Varvaressos was the Greek representative at the United Nations Monetary Conference in 1944. (At the time, he was the governor-in-exile of the Bank of Greece, as his country was still under Nazi occupation.) Seen at far right is a much smaller and newer plaque giving the names of guests who stayed at the hotel on December 30, 1999. (The guests are not complete nobodies: Steven Holtzman was at the time an executive with a Boston-area pharmaceutical firm; he's now the CEO of another Boston drug company and a trustee of Berklee College of Music.)

(With apologies for the specular reflection and overexposure. I should have used a bounce flash, but I hadn't yet bought a good flash for this camera, so I was stuck with the horrible on-board flash-substitute.)
