Reginald A. Fessenden Broadcasting History Symposium

Continuing the series of celebrations in Marshfield this year in honor of Reginald A. Fessenden, the inventor of amplitude modulation and the first person to intentionally broadcast speech and music, a day-long symposium on broadcasting history was held at the Isaac Winslow House on October 7, 2006. Boston University associate professor Nick B. Mills, freelance broadcaster and writer Scott D. Fybush, broadcast historian and Emerson College faculty member Donna L. Halper, and long-time WHDH morning man Jess Cain were scheduled to appear. Jess Cain was unable to attend due to health problems. Edward F. Perry, Jr., of WATD-FM (95.9 Marshfield) introduced the panelists and recorded the proceedings for a later webcast. Also speaking was a representative of the Canadian consulate, substituting for another speaker, who read a statement on Fessenden's importance to Canada.
