Our tour has moved a short distance down the road to LC-5/6, a two-pad launch complex with a single blockhouse. It was from this complex that the Mercury-Redstone 3 mission was launched, carrying Alan Shepard's “Freedom 7” capsule into space, making him the first American in space, on May 5, 1961.
