As a result of the big nationwide wave of TV network affiliation flips in the mid-nineties, the CBS affiliation in Atlanta, for many years on WAGA, eventually ended up on the UHF dial in the hands of Tribune's WGNX, channel 46, formerly an independent. Given Tribune's increasing interest in the WB network -- in which it is a partner with AOL Time Warner -- it was unsurprising that Tribune ended up selling channel 46 to Meredith and purchasing the local WB affiliate on channel 36. Meredith built a brand-new studio facility for channel 46 -- re-christened WGCL -- here at 425 14th St. NW. The station now positions itself as ``CBS Atlanta'' after a brief stint as ``Clear TV'', but still has yet to make an appreciable dent in ratings behemoth WSB-TV.
