View from Mount Royal

We're now up on Mount Royal itself, on the grounds of the park designed a hundred years ago by Frederick Law Olmsted, which fifty years ago was the birthplace of Canadian television. Here we're looking back at downtown (or in French, centre-ville) at the office towers which dominate the city's skyline today. Atop the rectangular building at center-left is the transmitter of CKOI (96.9 Verdun), which was mistakenly licensed for an effective radiated power of 325 kW. Despite this massive power -- or more likely, becuase of the enormous antenna gain necessary to achieve it -- CKOI's signal can be difficult to receive when actually in downtown Montreal.

I believe that the mast attached to the side of the building just to the right of CKOI was once a backup antenna for someone, perhaps CFCF-TV (channel 12) or CFQR (92.5).
