CJMS transmitter building

CJMS transmitter building

It was the apparent age and condition of this building that first gave us the clue that CJMS had moved in where CKGM had once stood. Why would a six-year-old station have a transmitter building which was clearly three or four times that age?

[Astute readers will note that this is the second station to bear the callsign CJMS. The old CJMS (1280 Montreal) went dark several years ago in the merger of Radio-Mutuel with Telemedia's Quebec properties. CJMS had been the Radio-Mutuel station, and given the choice between 1280 and the clearly superior CKAC (730 Montreal) facility, there was no contest. The 1280 facilities were later sold to CFMB, which moved there from an inferior 1410 facility. We took photos of all of the other facilities on our last Montreal visit, and the schedule did not permit a revisit this time. Sheldon Harvey tells us that the 1410 facilities are no longer standing, having been taken by Hydro-Québec to expand a nearby substation (which must have wreaked havoc on the pattern when 1410 was still operating).]
