Brighton Studioplex
The area around Soldiers Field Road, Western Avenue, and Market
Street in Brighton (the westernmost neighborhood of Boston) has
been home to broadcast studios for many years, starting with the
WBZ facility at 1170 Soldiers Field Road in 1948 (which even
before that was the transmitter site of WCOP-1150). Since then,
WBZ has been joined by ten other stations (not to mention WBZ-FM,
now elsewhere, and WBZ-TV); it is about to be joined by three more
as Boston's largest public broadcaster, WGBH, moves from its
long-time Allston home to the other end of Western Avenue and
south a few blocks to new studios on Market Street. We saw inside
WBZ's studios back in June,
2005; I hope to see the new WGBH studios soon.
(As of this writing, WGBH has already moved some office
functions into the new One Guest Street complex; studios are
planned to move later in June, with a formal public opening in
September.)
