WXRG tower

WXRG tower

Continuing west, we stop in the town of Athol, home to WXRG (99.9A, formerly WNYN, WAHL, and originally WCAT-FM), another Steve Silberberg station. WXRG recently dropped the satellite Hot AC format it had as WNYN to join a simulcast with Silberberg's WXRV (92.5B Andover), “The River”. The tower is on Bearsden Road, is 59.4 m (195 ft) tall, and was built (according to FCC records) in 1989—so it must have been constructed for the station. (According to my 1989 M Street, there were two competing applicants for the frequency. The construction permit eventually went to P & S Broadcasting, the then-owners of WCAT (700 Orange-Athol); the FCC's antenna database still shows P & S as the owners today.)
