The five-tower Radio Rd. site of Infinity sports outlet WFNZ (610 Charlotte) proved incredibly difficult to photograph, so I'm not showing them this time. (Perhaps if I go back some day with a wider lens....) Scott described this station as ``the number four AM in a market that doesn't have a number two or three''. The site is one of six that cluster around Brookshire Blvd. northwest of downtown Charlotte, and in addition to the 610 towers is also home to a backup for WNKS (95.1 Charlotte), as befits the former WROQ-AM and -FM. (WNKS is one of the few non-Clear Channel ``Kiss'' stations in the country -- in this case, Infinity.)
In more recent years, this site was home to the studios -- that's what you see here -- of WRFX-FM (99.7 Kannapolis), which was then simulcasting on AM 610. These studios are now vacant, but the sign on the building explains what they once were. WRFX is now owned by Clear Channel; I haven't pieced together the history to figure out how this all happened.
