Afficionados of AM broadcast towers everywhere recognize the beauty and elegance of the classic Blaw-Knox square-cross-section, diamond-shaped tower. With his 2002 visit to WSM in Nashville, your editor completed the entire set (at least of those still standing). This was a point of some soreness with friend and tower-hunting colleague Scott Fybush, and we resolved at that time to find an excuse for him to visit Charlotte, N.C., to complete his collection with a stop at the three-Blaw-Knox directional array of WBT (1110) on Nations Ford Road in Charlotte's sprawling southern suburbs. The opportunity came almost exactly one year later, when the American Numismatic Association's ``National Money ShowTM'' was held in Charlotte. Scott is a past president and board member of the Rochester Numismatic Association and thus had a good reason to attend.
We met on Saturday, March 22, at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, so that I could be added as a driver on Scott's rental car for the remainder of the trip. After taking care of this bit of administrivia, it was on to see the sights (and sites) of the Queen City.
