We headed six miles east of downtown, along busy arterial roads in Thursday evening traffic, to find the Journal Broadcast Group studios at 7280 E. Rosewood St. In addition to Journal's TV stations, KGUN (9/35 Tucson, ABC) and KWBA (58/44 Sierra Vista, CW), this facility is also the home to four radio stations (we hear it's rather cramped). The radio stations are KFFN (1490 Tucson), KMXZ-FM (94.9C Tucson), KQTH (104.1A Tucson), and KGMG (106.3C2 Oracle, heard in Tucson on translator K285DL). (Astute observers may now be thinking, “104.1A?! Licensed to a real place and not a bump in the road?” KQTH was an 80-90 drop-in, granted in 1992 and licensed in 1995, with original transmitter site on one of the towers at the old 580 site on Swan Road.)
Given the declining light and the lack of anything else worth seeing in this part of town, we drove back west on Grant to our hotel and made plans for dinner at the downtown El Charro, recommended by Barry Mishkind.
