Spring Trip 2009: Kingman, Arizona (and a tiny bit of Las Vegas)

Sunday morning, after driving up from Laughlin to Vegas, we kept on US 95 past the northern Las Vegas city limits into the Las Vegas Pima Reservation to see a brand-new transmitter site. Then we headed back south to Cashman Field, where the Las Vegas 51s play, to enjoy some minor-league baseball before Scott and I went our separate ways for the remainder of the trip. I headed out of town by way of US 93, enduring the long slow crawl over Hoover Dam (I'll be happy when the bypass is completed) and then southeast into Kingman. There's not a whole lot to see in Kingman, although the downtown area along Historic US 66 is notable (but very quiet on a Sunday afternoon). Kingman now has one AM, one full-power FM, about a dozen translators, a religious LPFM, a booster for a station that got moved out of town, and a bunch of LPTVs. The one remaining FM is up on Hualapai Mountain; even though it's a county park I didn't bother to try to see it. (Most of the translators are up there, too.) That left all of five stops to make in Kingman before heading on east to Flagstaff for the night.
