Scott, Lisa, and Ari were planning to be in Boston for a family wedding on the weekend of June 4-5, 2005. Entirely by coincidence, the following Saturday was the ceremony and broadcast commemorating the 70th anniversary of the first public demonstration of frequency modulation by its inventor, Edwin Howard Armstrong. For some reason, family weddings are often an excuse for Scott to get away from the boredom of the Rochester market for some good towerage, and the Armstrong celebration made a week's vacation an irresistible opportunity. We began the week by heading up to the WJTO Inn in Bath, Maine, stopping along the way at Citadel's three-and-a-half-station cluster in Dover, New Hampshire. We came back to the seacoast the following day, after seeing the Saga stations in Portland, and then moved on to Concord and Lowell before returning to Boston.
In New Hampshire, we are thankful for the kindness of VP/general manager Marty Lessard, operations manager Mark Ericson, and consulting engineer Bob Perry at WOKQ; vice president, general manager, director of sales, and AM drive host Gary James at WMEX; consultant Clark Smidt at WTPL; and station manager Harry Kozlowski at WCNH-LP.
