This shiny new Harris transmitter generates WFAA-DT's transitional signal on channel 9. The station plans to move its digital signal back to channel 8 once the transition phase is complete. We were gratified to hear that WFAA-DT has actual viewers, who notice when the transmitter is taken off the air for tower work; apparently some SMATV systems are now getting their local stations from the digital broadcast signals rather than analog. WFAA-DT has a broadcast as far south as Waco and as far north as the Red River valley—not bad coverage for a 21-kW peak ERP.
