Boston Radio Archives co-editor Scott Fybush attended the Synagogue 2000 meeting in Dallas, Texas, in early October, 2002. Since he had never been to the Dallas-Fort Worth area (unless you count making a connection at DFW airport), he scheduled his trip for a few extra days in advance of the meeting, and invited your photographer along for three days of tourism. With the help of WFAA-TV's audio production whiz, and National Radio Club member, Wally Wawro, we managed to visit almost all of the interesting radio and TV facilities in the Metroplex. For part of our journey, we were also accompanied by long-time NRC'er John Callarman, now retired, but who once worked for stations as diverse as WMIX in Mount Vernon, Ill., and WCAS in Cambridge, Mass. (While we were driving around the notoriously sprawling region, John regaled us with his tales of international DXing in the 1950s and reporting on Cambridge politics in the late 1960s.). Thanks, Wally and John, for taking the time to show us around.
The photos below capture only a few of the facilities we visited. There are many additional photographs I will be able to share once I manage to identify what they are, so check back often!
